New to Solar

Post by dstydream » Fri Mar 13, 2015 11:21 pm

Hi. My name is Amy. I watch you on YouTube just about everyday. I LOVE the tiny house videos. I just purchased a Solar Charger from Harbor Freight (The 13 Watt briefcase model). I got the smaller one because we are using it to help charge up our battery on our pop up camper for my son (he has medical equipment). I almost got the 45 Watt one but decided that would not be as portable as the smaller one for us to take camping.

Hi,

I have the same solar panel kit. The folding one. I have not yet done a full video review of it due to the winter clouds. Not enough full days of sunlight.

It should work fine for you to run some LED lights and small devices like cell phones or a tablet.

A Nice integrated solar kit (all in one unit : AC inverter 250W (500W surge) - 30A PWN Solar Regulator - 10Ah or 20Ah LiFePO4 Battery hidden in the frame + 25W semi flexible solar panel hosing it all)
SOLN1 25 Fast Build Kit - $249.95
Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUQOO0mQlRU
Shop http://teslamaker.com/product/soln1-25-fast-build-kit/

- Note you will need to buy the Batteries Separately the kit uses
4x or 8x

Headway 38120S LiFePO4 10Ah Cells
http://www.headway-headquarters.com/381 ... ergy-cell/

4 cell configuration: $76.00 – For smaller loads. 10Ah Approximately a 120 watt hour battery.
8 cell configuration: $152.00 – For larger loads. 20Ah Approximately a 240 watt hour battery.

LiFePO4 (Lithium Battery chemistry)
- More efficient recharging (faster recharge times even on lower amps and watts)
- Much longer usable 2000 cycle life (leads are 200 cycles)
- Lighter to carry around (No Lead Dead weight)
- No Sulfation and desulfation
- No Electrolyte Maintenance (no water or sulphuric acid topups needed)
- No electrolysis Gassing
- safer due it non toxic (Lead acids the acid and the lead are toxic due the lead can have trace amounts of natural mercury)
- 100% Full charged an then put on a shelf for 12 months storage the internal loss is VERY VERY Low - 12 months later you come back to it and it will only have lost 3% to 5% of its full charge 97% - 95%
[Lead acid lose the charge in 6 months 12 Moths are snuffing heavy Sulfation which alters the run time of the battery to give even less runtime]
it means a higher relatability.
- better at colder + warmer temps

This kits more ideal for Medical Gear like
- Nebulisers
- Oxygen concentrator
- Automated external defibrillator
- Blood pressure monitor

but also allows you to make use of it about the home / workshop recharging tools (Battery Chain Saw / Drills/ strimmer / Mower / soil cultivator)

lasersaber has said that he is also going to do 75W, 100W even (250W with MPPT) versions with much larger upgradable capability's
I suggested can fit 6x stacks of 4x LiFePO4 10Ah Cells into a 160mm Drainage Pipe soil pipe and have a 60Ah - 120A battery Packs and give it a plug & play connections expansion so you can expand its storage capability so it can run 2000W Stackable Sync linkable inverters (2x 4000W)

GTSUN 2000W Stackable Power Inverter Parallel Input DC 12V Output AC 110V/220V/220V/230V/240V

Code: Select all

http://www.amazon.com/GTSUN-Stackable-Inverter-Parallel-optional/dp/B00DFSJFG4/
I also suggested to be using Speakon connectors to simplify the expansions / Speakon sockets / Speakon cables can get pre made in lengths of 3 ft up to 100ft so you can get the best sunlight.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speakon_connector
due to the 4 pin you can make to support 60A and the 8 pin to support 120A (30A per pin)
the new kits you can add to as you go along or to a build on budget so you can grow them gradually to any needs

USD $19.00 each month for one Headway 38120S LiFePO4 10Ah Cell
yo have 4x them in 4 months or 8x of them in 8 months witch isn't bad considering you you have options to go beyond 4x and 8x

Yah. The 13 Watt briefcase model was nice. I used it in our validation camp.

However, I got problems with charging my tab. I don't know maybe its because of the branding. Anyways, I saw a 36-Watt model from iglio. Maybe you could see that.

I was travelling away from home then.
