Growing Awesome Veggies! (easy)

Post by DonJon » Wed Apr 17, 2013 2:49 pm

The other day I left a comment on Troy's vid:

"A Long Weekend At The Off Grid Camper"

I was responding to the veggie box he was starting. I was inspired by a vid I saw earlier which showed incredible growth! So, I wanted to share it.

My comment:
You have an open mind on the subject so that puts he ball back in my court, let me see if I can help you by getting some info together!

A start...

Example of compost tea method results:
"Unexpected side effects of Compost Tea"
http://youtu.be/uEwB23uhBGY

Example of easy compost tea method:
"E-Z Compost Tea (Simplest method on earth)"
/GCbeALuAYsg

(Above is a YouTube link! I have to paste only the last part like this because of some single link rule. Just put a "youtu.be" before it.)

Continuing:
Some townships HAVE free compost available to residents! Mine did for a long time. They get it from basic township maintenance.

I'm going to bring this subject over to the forums now, those interested should go there.
So locate some black, lofty soil and some compost. Create a veggie box or two or perhaps even utilize buckets. Put in drain holes then use the compost tea method. I think you'll be happy with the results!

Best wishes.

P.S. Troy you really have to fix that one link rule! It don't solve anything except preventing legit users from sharing links.

BTW a good suggestion for a pump for me was one that came with an air mattress, cheap but works.

About the one link rule - oh, believe me, it solves a ton of problems from the spam side. I sadly spend hours per day sorting and deleting spam. About a thousand articles per week. Really.

Thank you for the info. It is good to know.

You may be happy to hear that I immediately started to contact companies looking for free compost and mulch. I may have found a company who will drop off tons of free mulch. I am waiting to hear back on the free compost.

Thanks again,

Troy

You have to delete a spam post if it contains a single link or 500,000 links. You must still identify the post as spam and then delete it. The amount of work is exactly the same. I mention this (the single link thing) because I have 10 years experience in such administration tasks (spam bots included). If you want people to contribute long term you can't make participating in the forums a constant pain in the a$$!

So in other words, what your saying is that the spam bots have won and the users must sit in a sandbox?

I'm sorry if I'm abrupt but I don't dance around I just make the call and move on. I don't have the ability to cajole. I'll edit this post after you read it though and remove this off-topic posting. :)

EDIT (update): I dug up a link with a solution to your spam bot problem. If you need help implementing I will assist on the phone.

I'm from the school of thought that if you have a problem you need to offer up a viable solution else you don't deserve to have you problem addressed. So I'm offering the solution, which will also free up the time you spend cleaning up after the bots.

Thank you for your input and help.

There is another reason I had implemented the one link rule. I wanted to keep the outgoing links down to a minimum. I cant even remember how and where I set it up. It was way over a year ago I did that. If you have patience, I can remove the rule one day, but right now I am swamped with answering about 300 youtube comments per day, emails, articles and forum posts. Getting out of hand.

Hope you understand.

Of course I understand, you also have so much going on otherwise. But my offer stands, if you want me to assist in patching the spam holes in the forum I will help. I know it can be done, Ive done it before when I've gotten spam botted.

take care

Thank you. I will consider your offer. I am considering asking for help with the forum anyway, because deleting all the spam posts is taking way too long.

I will change the one link rule tonight, if I get the time when I am done answering all the posts.
