Started The Off Grid Project - Get Off The Grid - Cheap

Post by techman » Fri Mar 30, 2012 8:06 am

The Off Grid Project has just begun. Funding is now being raised to complete a series of projects that will show you how to get your home fully off the grid for $5,000 or less. You can get your home solar powered for about a dollar per watt. With a homemade windmill, made with common parts, you can have wind energy for about half that price.

The project will also show you how to heat your home, have running water, cook, wash, and provide your own year long supply of food, all of the grid.

Contribute and become a part of the project at: http://www.indiegogo.com/TheOffGridProject

Contributors will not only become personally involved in the project, but qualifying contributors will receive a book about how to get fully off the grid at the end of the project.

Join The Off Grid Project and get off the grid!

Am currently getting the 32 foot trailer ready for the project. I will be moving into the trailer in the woods for the duration of the project. I have given up my apartment in order to make this a reality. The idea is to move out into the forest, off the grid and be forced to make my own heat, water supply, electricity and waste disposal. Hopefully enough funding will come through to complete the project this summer, otherwise its going to be a long, uncomfortable season.

The whole idea is to prove that you can move off the grid on a budget.

Hey, techman, just stumbled upon this off the grid living thread, think it's a great idea! I myself have a 24 foot camper I'll be moving into the woods and slowly converting it. Have you ever heard of a solar furnace? A guy from Newfoundland has patented one, and they are not only very easy to build, but fairly inexpensive and worth every bit of work.

just one example, look up a few more.

cheers

The guy you listed here sounds like he is not really satisfied with his heater

I have been using passive solar window heaters with good success using just a cardboard box opened up. Then glue or tape on aluminum foil on both sides. Paint one side with hi temp black. Use flat black paint.

Put it in a window with about an inch of clearance on the top, bottom and between the heater and the window. You will have a passive solar window heater when the sun shines on it. I have made mine portable so I can move it from window to window as needed.

I will upload the video when I have it done and write an article on it.
