RV versus Cabin

Post by RSizzle » Tue Mar 18, 2014 1:11 am

Hey Troy, long time (over a year) lurker here.. I dont comment on YouTube because I wish to remain semi anonymous so I figured I'd create an account here..

You mentioned that you had hoped to start building a cabin in the near future.. Do you plan on starting that this season or focusing more on repairing your RV? Splitting your resources towards 2 capital projects might leave you in a jam this fall. If it was me, my first priority once the ground thaws I would get to work on getting a foundation in and some walls up - then you can focus on other tasks and continue in the winter out of the elements inside the cabin.

Anyways keep the videos coming, they are a welcome distraction...

Thank you for your advice and opinion. Sorry for being late in my reply. I was not able to answer posts while in Australia so I am finally fully catching up.

I am currently using the RV until the ground is thawed. Since I am using it full time, I will keep repairing it. I want to finish it anyway and complete the project. Many complaints I hear are how I never finish a project. This would be a huge one if I did not finish it.

When the ground is thawed I will start the tiny home project.

Just a question. have you thought of putting your camper and rv close together and then building around it? It will enclose your living space and when the time comes just move the RV out of the way. I only bring this up cause a year or so ago in a nearby trailer park someone had parked their camper there. They built an wood structure around it, and then one day I noticed the camper again but this time outside the structure. My wife and I stopped by to look and they had built a home inside the wood structure. was kind of cool and it easily lasted through a few nasty Wyoming winters.

I have considered it but I do not want to build that large a structure to fit both the RV and the camper. It would require a lot of support to withstand the wind and snow we get here.

Smaller is better around here. By the way, did you hear that shopping mall roofs collapsed this winter around the North East? Even the pros were not good enough this winter.

I hope to build a tiny home and then use the RV as an office area. Would be nice to have my work separate from my home.

You should set up donations to the off grid project through PayPal. Sometimes while watching videos I think about how to help. Would be awesome to click a button and help out. :)

I have a donate button on my youtube channel page. I had a donate button on each of my videos but I removed that. There is also a donate button on The Do It Yourself World website.

Thank you very much for the suggestion. It does help when people send something towards the project.
