When you put mulch around trees, bushes you never put it up next to the tree because it creates a wood rot, mold issue that can kill the tree. And when we apply mulch in our Back To Eden style gardens, we use buckets not shovels which makes the task go faster.

Thank you for the info. I figured that was why. I was told not do let it touch the tree itself but not why.

And we did start using buckets later on and yes it is so much easier.
