Backup Solar System

Post by Na73lolz » Mon Feb 23, 2015 2:42 pm

Hello, this is na73lolz. I want to setup a solar power backup system for power outages. I want the system to be small, with around a 500 watt sine wave inverter to run my router, modem, and maybe a laptop. Should I get a harbor freight 45 watt solar panel and charge controller kit? Can I use a bank of sealed lead acid batteries? And how many AH should I go for in my system? Thanks :)

Ok, first I have to ask you a question.

How many watts will you actually be running at any given time?

How many hours will you be running this load?

Lets say you run a 50 watt laptop for 2 hours and a 10 watt modem for 2 hours.

This gives you a total of 120 watts which = 120 watt hours.

This is the number we need in order to size your system
