New solar panel my first.. It does not indicate DC or AC

Post by Howard Boone » Fri Feb 13, 2015 6:21 pm

an eBay purchase ultimately decided not to get the dashboard plugin solar panel but this one there had find more watt = 10. it has a white frame.. Blue cells.. And two wires.. A listing of amps volts and Watts.. But I cannot determine or contemplate why doesn't it say DC current.. In truth I am so new I've only heard ac solar panels. and this is my first day on the form.

Solar panels put out a DC current. There are solar panels on the market that have DC to AC inverters built in.

Most likely what you have is a 10 watt solar panel designed to charge a 12 volt car battery. It is very small so you could connect it to a standard sized car battery permanently with no problem.

You cannot do this with larger solar panels without using a charge controller though.
