sunforce to "wind"force

Post by Hankandtilly » Tue Jun 11, 2013 12:16 am

this is what i want to do, will it work? i cant afford a wind controller so, i decided to make one ( 2 ). the goal is so that when the battery is charged and the turbine starts to free wheel, the battery will be drained, so it is under load again. i have a ceiling fan wind turbine i want to put on my garage, pictures later, and a 5 gallon pail VAWT for my house roof, to add to my solar bedroom.

What you describe is a typical dump load controller, most of them monitor the batteries and when a set point is hit, it will turn on a dump load for X seconds (keeping it from oscillating on and off quickly like your design might do).

There is also a PWM dump load controller available that regulates the dump load closer to the wind output so that less energy is wasted during a dump since wind energy is not constant.

Sounds like a fun project.
