Confusion with LED strips

Post by salan3 » Thu May 14, 2015 7:43 am

All,
I want to buy a 'reel' of LED strips(seen them on Ebay. they come in a roll). They say they can be cut to length, but how do you use the rest of the 'roll'? You would need to be able to put a connector on the strip to provide power?
Or are you just supposed to throw the rest away?
Am I missing something here?
Alan

the left over strip can be used after resoldering new leads on it (you have to cut it in marked sections to do so.

beware that the led strip drawes fair amound of amps, not realy suited for use as main lighting in off grid situations.

Got that right. I use them as accent lighting in the tiny home but they do draw a bit of power. I think about that when I use my indirect LED lighting in my tiny house.

I got this online. It is an average.

If your LED light strip has 30 LEDs per meter (yard) then it uses about 7 watts per meter (yard)

If it has 60 LEDs per meter then double that = 14.

120 LEDs per meter then again double that = 28.

A 15 foot LED light strip is about 5 yards so it uses about 35 watts of power and produces about 60 Lumens per Watt or about 2100 Lumens. That is a nice amount of light.
