Question about patching hole in RV molding

Post by Hipnosha » Sat Dec 08, 2012 10:07 pm

I recently aquired this Holiday Ramblette. Im guessing its around 1975. Ive just spent the last 3 days gutting it out, due to some water damage. Before i put the floor on i want to patch some holes in the shell. As seen in the pic, there is a bit of what seems to be plastic molding that is all brittle and cracked. Ive seen in one spot someone used a piece of tin and screws to patch a hole similar to this.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? It would help me out tremendously

THanks

Can you find some thick, but flexible plastic to patch the hole with? My large trailer is covered all along the bottom with a thick sheet of plastic which protects everything from dirt, moisture and mice.

You will need to find some very stiff glue to mount it well.

The best option tho, in my opinion, is to go to an auto shop and get some fiberglass repair kit. Use the fiberglass screen to cover the hole completely and then fill it in with fiberglass. Make sure you overlap on all sides of the hole at least 3 inches where you can.

If you can reach it from the inside, after the fiberglass cures, then use spray foam and fill in the whole area. This will strengthen the patch and also insulate it.

Please let me know how it goes.
