Hi

I want to use an old car battery as an art object but it would obviously need to be made 'safe' first. Is there an easy way to do this please?

You have to rinse out the battery with clean water. But the problem is what to do with the acid inside. Maybe you could find a local area where you can drop it off in a container. If you can find a place, then carefully tip the battery upside down over a container and let it drain for a day. Dispose of this acid in a proper manner.

Wear coveralls or something to protect your clothes. One tiny drop of acid will eat your clothes. Also wear protective eye glasses and gloves. Long sleeves and pants. Acid will burn you.

Rinse the battery well. Dispose of this water in the same way as above.

Now you can do what you want with the battery. But also remember that the lead inside is not safe for the environment so be sure not to dump any on the ground.
