Hey see if you can get a hold of a Tread mill motor either form a junk yard or see if a place has one that works for cheap. I hear that they make great Generators with High amp out put. Tech man, I have 2 Odd lamps that were purchased last summer, the weird thing is with out a battery they will light the LED with out the battery, even on a cloudy day. Not sure the reason on this. but it is weird. I guess the good thing would be If you have a dark room that needs lit during the day?...

a photo resistor would be your best bet, hmm..if you still have those solar lights they should have one. Unless it is using the light from the cells to deactivate the circuit. Photo resistors are cheap

as far as opening this, I can't even find a place to slide anything into the bottom to open it. I am guessing this is one hell of a set up on the inside. I am guessing that there is on the shaft a Permanent Magnet of some kind. I am not even sure what the safe speed for this is. well what to do with...

Oh this motor has a spinning perm mag that is rotating when I rotate the shaft. the coils surround the magnet..oh and loading that vid as well
