Re: Home made bus bars
the bars are conducting serieois power, but iff the positive is cold, and the negative hot there is another problem, i think one off the connections is loose or not torqued hard enough, the resistance tus created will make the bar hot to, remember when you use the inverter at max power it will draww...

Re: How much solar power required?
the instalation i use on my offgrid tugboat here in the netherlands is 24 volts at 460 amps, only have a smal solar system on the roof off the wheelhouse with two panels of 140 wats in series, delivering 45 volts at 8 amps to my mppt controller , max charge amps y have seen is around 15 amps at 24 v...

Re: How much solar power required?
even more battery standby power would be better, the bigger the bank, the lesser the strain you put on it, the longer they live, and the lesser yoy load them the better it is for a lead acid battery, i always say , you cant have a to big battery bank. and also inportant is that the bigger the instal...

Re: Going Partially Off Grid
a mppt controller is a lot more efficient than a pwm.(you get more charge amps out off your panels when using a mppt controller) (u can also use a higher solar voltage, making better use of your solar watts in charging forinstance a 12 volt system) ;) first, you wil have no problems connecting a bat...

you never gonna believe this Troy! 8-) I'm recently became a morningstar solar dealer here in Holland! 8-) i was impressed by the working of your MPPT morningstar Solar charger, there was only one dealer here in Holland , contacted Morningstar in the US , they gave me the info, and connected me to t...

Re: Electronics Discussions and Questions
iff you have a neon bulb with a fitting there is a resistor into it, think thats your problem, it has to be a bare neon bulb, no resistors in serie's!, it has to dissapate the high voltage inpuls, the load of the bulb with the internal risistor is to weak, think that part off the problem is your bul...

most yachts and rv's and campers the wiring is always a mess! even new build boats!
i always mesure first before i connect something , most cases red shoud be positive here , but you wont believe the things i find somethimes!

Re: Home made bus bars
The strips Troy uses are good enough, copper is a better conductor, but in this case it doesent matter that mutch, the most inportant thing is that you connect your battery's in sutch way that the are totally equal in use and charge , it is most inportant for the life of your batterys that any batte...

btw , in the U.S. you need a lot thicker wires!, more amps at lower voltage! we are cheapscates here in Holland

Re: A Special Note on Bearings and Generators
that is thrue, the most inportant thing is that the drive engine has to have a governor to keep the rpms constant. that is indeed to keep the frequency as close to 50 or 60 hz as possible, (depending on the country jou live in, here in europe it is 230 volts at 50 hz, y believe in the us it's 115 vo...
