Re: Solar panel heat!

Awesome to see a teenager interested in solar heating! It is definitely an old idea, but it is finally making itself into the commercial market: they actually sell these solar collector heaters in north america... But the technology is a little behind the times for most commercial units. There's a ...

Re: My "off-grid" playground experiment!

Don't worry about the late reply; I'm making one, too. I am fully recovered from the car accident now and nothing is wrong. The crimes have stopped and everything is back to as it was pre-August 15. I decided to do paneling and I did it with some plywood that was aged and looked orange-ish. Had you ...

Why haven't I thought of this before? A bed house thing!

Troy, if somehow legal or for if you ever bug out, you should make a 7Wx7Hx4L building that will house a thin bed, a small desk to put a cell phone or whatever on, and a door. That'll easily heat up in winter with normal roxul insulation or even cardboard like I have and heat up the only real import...

Re: My "off-grid" playground experiment!

More bad news, but a lot of good stuff to come. Good news first- -I am likely going to get a propane heater for the playground and I have already made a little theft-resistant box to house a propane tank so it won't get stolen. I have been considering this since the start of August because it's supp...

Re: My Solar Expierience

The charge controllers are rated at a slightly higher wattage than the solar panels with the Harbor Freight kit so that the solar panels will not mess up the charge controller. The charge controller does not convert what could be as much as 135 watts all the way up to 180 watts; it is able to take i...

Re: My "off-grid" playground experiment!

I have good news and bad news- The good news: --I got a screen door installed in the playground a week or two ago and is completely sealed off, keeping the bugs out with my door opened. --I also finally got all the leaks gone from the playground and removed all pieces of untreated wood that had mold...

Re: My "off-grid" playground experiment!

I told myself that if I was to ever get a new inverter, it would be a very good quality one that I would use for hopefully many years to come. (not saying Tiger Claw is bad, but I want basically the best.)Today, that inverter arrived here: a 2,000 watt (4,000 surge) Samlex pure sine wave inverter th...

Re: Welcome to the new chat room

I remember in a video or two sometime in winter, you got an army surplus heater that took virtually any type of burnable material and had many thousands of BTUs. Are you going to use that at all to benefit your tiny house/RV this winter or use in conjunction with your current wood burner+propane hea...

Re: Antenna rotor/rotator for your solar panel pole

That's actually a much better idea than mine is- I forgot about the actuators. I wish you the best of luck with getting those towers up- too bad I don't I live near there to help you out!

Re: My "off-grid" playground experiment!

I installed the new inverter, and, after nearly a month of waiting for it (shipping to and from plus I was gone for 2 1/2 weeks), it went right into overload protection with no load on it whatsoever. This was when I turned it on for the first time after connecting it- no modifications. I am dissatis...
