Re: Arduino
I didn't know you could do it either - if you are interested, I first saw it here: http://www.instructables.com/id/Turning-an-old-webcam-into-a-Night-vision-cam/ Only downside I have read about is the webcam is a bit over exposed in daylight. I will have to look into setting this up, last night I ha...
Re: Arduino
Okay, quick write up of what I have - remember I am just trying things out after watching your videos over the last who knows how many months! What the 'system' is made up of: - Cheap solar charge controller from China - 20W panel - Raspberry Pi - Buffalo wifi adapter - 7Ah Lead acid battery - Cheap...
Re: Arduino
Bit late to this thread but I have just used a Model B Raspberry Pi with a webcam (USB), a 20w solar panel and a 7Ah lead acid battery as a remote webcam to keep an eye on the chickens in my garden. Downside is the wireless signal down there is weak so its very slow. Need to try the old pringles can...

Re: Ideas for gardening in small spaces (year round)
I have been using pallet wood for a while for my raised beds in the garden - one thing I have to say is use screws when you put them together. If a plank starts to rot, screws are a lot easier to get out than a nail! Yanking a nail out of the wood may cause more problems - my first bot fell apart wh...

Re: Electricty from heat
Not sure - I have ordered a couple of the Peltiers to play with from Ebay, so hopefully tell you soon
I wonder how hot they can get before they go pop, there surely has to be a cut off point when it gets too hot and the semiconductors just give up the ghost?

Electricty from heat
Hi again Troy - glad to see you are still pumping out the videos, so thanks for that. I am only halfway through the February ones but stillenjoying every single one of them and learning a lot. Anyway, considering you have your fire on all day, have you looked at the heat to electricity method of alt...

Re: Controlling Vermin!
I have a few mice that like to run through my veggie patch and chew anything in there, lost a few cucamelons to the swines! Lately, as its nice weather, I sit near there with an air rifle - no greater pleasure than popping them out of my patch! May not work if you have lots but this way keeps my air...

Re: Why should you prep.
Definitely a good place to start, thanks for the pointer - see what I can go find.SurplusSupply wrote:@happyhippy This is true. One possible good resource U.K. folks do have is the "Bushcraft" and camping community. I would start there.

Re: Why should you prep.
I think I class myself as a semi-prepper. In the last few years, I have realised a lot (remember I am in the UK): the government cares nothing for the public and due to this we have a lot more different 'dangers' to you guys in the US. Whereas you have earthquakes and tornados, we have the risk of r...

Re: Is it better to go it alone or in a group?
Agree that groups are the way to go and, as has been mentioned, small manageable groups would be the best. Looking at no more than 10 tops. With that amount of people you should get a good spread of skills and ability to help keep things ticking over all day every day. The important thing to do, I t...
