Re: TV and computer monitor you can run on 12V
Even Walmart has 12Volt up to 32" I believe it's been awhile since I considered one. Last time I checked the requirements in amps for draw said, it was easier using a 1500Watt inverter and just using an AC tv, for 20 amps total pull from battery. You can gain useful insight just trying different You...

Re: Winter is coming! Discussion for heating and insulating
I've been in perpetual insulation and heating mode since 1989 in my Maine house - on grid. My Maine Camps - 2005 - off grid. Thus far for the house, low e, dbl. pane windows and storm windows. Doors are steel foam filled, with entry storm door. Garage unheated but, has 6" fiberglass batts and foam C...

Your solar panel to Battery bank...
Troy, I think I've asked a few times for an answer to this question, using my limited knowledge of solar. I believe I've watched all your videos and just can't ascertain what I'd like answered from them. What is the greatest distance between your solar panels (say past the chickens. down by the old ...

Re: Off Grid Toilets
I'd be curious to find out what they would say to your having a "natureshead" or "airhead" store bought composting toilet and a graywater only drywell capable of handling 800-1000 gallons of sinks/tub/water. Wonder if the requirement for above would shrink from septic to graywatewr or drywell with t...

Re: Off Grid Toilets
I can't see anyone being charged $5000 for a perc test? Sounds like your friend had a septic system designed by a licensed professional. Shucks, in Maine perc test isn't required just the design by the licensed site evaluator, and a pass off on the design by a plumbing inspector. We're still allowed...

Re: Troy mouse problem
I've used the bucket of death and it works. I can also testify to seeing it used for 20-30 mice per day in a state park. It works best within the house/camp or log cabin. For a slower alternative you might try "ALittle Bite'll Do Them" that's a mouse/rat killer sold at Aubuchon's or Farmers supply s...

Re: Off Grid Toilets
Thought I hit preview but, guess I hit submit on the last one. Is the info you're working off of written codes or have you asked the local regulator for an explanation of the codes. have they offered to do an LTAR or percolation test for them to decide if you really need a 1000gal septic tank, and 1...

Re: Off Grid Toilets
Are you planning to put your tiny home in a wetland?? Have you researched the 'percolation" for your soil or has the county. 1000 Gallon leach field is what most would use for a 4 bedroom house. How large a septic tank are they saying you require for this house you're building. And if it's just a ma...

Re: Off Grid Toilets
I believe I saw a picture of their humanure (same as your old RV video) toilet and it was quite similar, please don't ask me for a webpage - it started on tinyhomes and progressed to I know not where. I realize that Ithaca is probably a different county to you (It's been 30 years since I've wanted t...

Re: Off Grid Toilets
I was reading an article about a AARP friend's tiny home build, and you know how surfing works - there are other off-grid users in NY who have composting toilets in use. Thought you might by interested in knowing some are used around the corner from Ithaca and the college at a $59 night b&b called K...
